Leaving Brisbane

Down to $2400 on the 22nd August. That means I’ve spent $2600 in ONE MONTH of being in the country. I knew it was going to be expensive but didn’t have any respect for just how much I would being haemorrhaging money. Ah well, it’s only money. And hopefully after another week at the call centre, I’ll get paid $1500 if all goes to plan.

We laugh about it but I don’t actually do myself any favours because I keep leaving things that I have bought around the hostel. So far I have lost: bread, jam, this amazing peanut butter (😍), teabags (😐), body lotion, conditioner, shampoo, soap and a number of other products. I just leave them everywhere like the idiot I am but need to not be. Thankfully they are just things I can buy again rather than something that is more difficult and even more dear to replace like a passport or a phone.

Yesterday I quit my job as a charity phone fundraiser. They took it pretty well as I’m sure it happens all the time. It still left me feeling bad though. It was something I was just not cut out for. Me as a salesperson. I don’t think so. Still, I enjoyed the experience of the dreaded office job environment for the time I was there. A whole two weeks haha.  And decided I’ll try and stay away from it as much as possible.

They have lovely names for the towns in Aus. Things like ‘Wollamollo’ and ‘Woolangaba’ and ‘Toombul’. I think it’s lovely and such a change from ‘St Pancras’ and ‘East Croydon’. There are palm trees everywhere and a collection of some really wacky looking birds. One is like an English pigeon but with a Mohican and another is a large white bird with a long black curved beak. They are everywhere.

Onwards and upwards – we are headed to a strawberry farm tomorrow. I hope it’s not going to be as back breaking as I think it might. By ‘we’ I mean myself, Sarah, Janneke and Frédérique – our two lovely Dutch friends.

It feels weird to be leaving after a significant amount of time here. You make friends and have a chat when you’re popping in and out of the hostel and it becomes the closest thing to home. So many memories from here too. I will look upon it very fondly indeed. It is time to move along though.

Looking forward to some new scenery and being outside everyday. I need to work on that tan! Plus, I am the strawberry queen! 🍓

Have fun on the next phase of your big adventure! Not surprised you’re all done with phone sales — strawberry picking sounds much more up your alley. Love you xxx
